In today’s economic conditions, the founders, Lilla Harris and Howard Bashford have learned to adapt their tactics and strategies to achieve Mobilelite’s longer term goals. Investment is difficult to close, customers are uncertain, but the Company has become agile and has hunted the “easier” opportunities (long hanging fruit) in order to sustain development and early growth. And new opportunities are opening up. For Howard, a former Managing Director at Dell Computers, it has been a exciting entrepreneurial experience. Finerday.com is a safe, easy to use communications platform. Written in .Net technology on partnership with Microsoft, it’s target customers are less technically aware, older or a child or grandchild. Grandma no longer sees photos or shares messages and memories, and the internet is not a safe place for younger children. The team specialises in “social computing”, usability and design. Access to initial finance has required the team to review maximising cash generation to fund the core development. Two initial revenue streams come from broadband and mobile data sales. The short term cash generation has been successful, helps to relieve immediate running costs, and the tactics align to the overall strategy of connecting people online. Secondly, Lilla and Howard have had to look more towards to partners and corporate opportunities rather than concentrating on the consumer market first. This has led to an unexpected level of interest for joint ventures. The corporate discussions have influenced design at an early stage and have opened up co-funding negotiations. All of the above money is FREE. Early corporate interest has further shaped the team’s healthcare strategy FinerdayHealth has partnered with an Australian healthcare company and has started talking with the UK Government with regards to delivering personalised online health services. An increasingly interesting opportunity as NHS budgets are slashed, and a space which is offering lucrative grants. More FREE money. Finally, Mobilelite are replicating the same model simultaneously in Australia - a reasonably easy market for a British company to develop, providing double the opportunity for a relatively small investment ..... 'low hanging fruit'.
