AVG Security Tip of the Week: Social Networking

Monday, 19 July 2010 13:51 Written by Tobi Alli-Usman

‘More and more start-up businesses are realising the value of using Social Networking Sites (Linked In, Twitter, Facebook etc) as a cost effective way to grow their business. With this opportunity comes security risks as cybercriminals target social networking sites, duping people into visiting malicious websites or providing sensitive business information (a recent survey revealed that 64% of people click on links offered by community members). To protect your business, whilst still making the most of the Social Networking opportunity:

A) Develop a healthy dose of scepticism when dealing with unsolicited social networking contacts and;

B) ensure your anti-virus solution contains dynamic web scanning technology.

This technology determines whether the web page you are about to visit is compromised at that precise moment, and if so, prevents you from reaching it’.
