Spotlight on Warren Cole

Warren ColeJulie Meyer's first investment as an online Dragon was a surprise to many - the technology investor and advisor chose to invest £25,000 in musician Warren Cole.

Warren will play his first London gig at the legenday 100 Club, where the likes of the Sex Pistols and The Clash launched themselves on London, on Thursday 11 February 2010. Check the listing on the 100 Club site for more details.

Warren is one of the few applicants to receive an investment through the new online format of the BBC's famous Dragons' Den. Excited by the opportunity to work with a talented musician and leverage Ariadne's existing expertise in the digital media sector (gained through various music related investments) to bring Warren's talent to the fore in a modern way, Julie decided to invest in the opportunity.

Born in Bath in the same year England last won the Football World Cup (1966), Warren impressed Julie with his passion for music, the England team and his eagerness to engage with the digital music ecosystem.

As Julie and the Ariadne team work with Warren we will be posting diary blogs to tell the story from the inside, lifting the lid on the ecosystem as we take advantage of the digital revolution in music and beat the path to launching a successful music career for Warren.

Since his appearance on Dragons' Den, Warren has been writing a number of new songs and recording raw acoustic versions. You can hear them on the Warren Cole website, as well as through Warren's MySpace, Bebo and Facebook pages.

Larkhall Festival – May Bank Holiday 2010

“One man and his dog, belly dancing and a childrens art workshop”

Warren Cole, Lark Hall Festival

Larkhall is a small suburb on the east fringes of Bath that retains its own unique identity, and during the May Bank Holiday it hosts its own village festival. As a resident of this fair corner of the world, I was keen to support the event, so Sunday afternoon saw me at The Oriel Hall doing my thing, whilst elsewhere in the building locals could also sample the delights of a Turkish Belly Dancing workshop, or crack open the glitter glue at a kid’s Art & Craft session. We’re nothing if not eclectic in the West Country.

New manager and a gig at the 100 Club!

I finally got to meet with Paul King last week, at the Ariadne Offices. I’m really pleased to say that he’s going to be my manager. He comes with an impressive pedigree, and some of the best rock ‘n’ roll stories I’ve ever heard.

Believe

Done and dusted with clinical efficiency, and only one minor, forgivable blip in Ukraine (it must be hard to focus whilst trying to dodge flares and missiles). England go to South Africa with their best ever qualifying performance. The England team is equipped with more strength, skill, and pace than ever before. Fabio Capello is proving his credentials and, as well as possessing the all important tactical skills, he looks to be a great man manager. I've got a good feeling about 2010, and come the summer next year I'm certain that the whole country (including those who wouldn't normally go anywhere near a football match) will be carried along with the excitement of the tournament.

Say it like you mean it

Glastonbury 2009 saw some great acts - Bruce Springsteen, Blur, The Ting Tings, and Lady Gaga, but nothing matched the legend that is........ wait for it...................................

Rolf Harris - yes, THE Rolf Harris.

Eye on the future

I briefly looked at the Dragon’s Den website today, and there was a comment referring to the amount of equity surrendered in making the deal with Julie. It said “sold his soul in a snip”. Well legend has it that Robert Johnson, the great delta blues guitarist, sold his soul to the devil in return for musical greatness - his mistake was that he didn’t negotiate an exit strategy!
