Eye on the future

I briefly looked at the Dragon’s Den website today, and there was a comment referring to the amount of equity surrendered in making the deal with Julie. It said “sold his soul in a snip”. Well legend has it that Robert Johnson, the great delta blues guitarist, sold his soul to the devil in return for musical greatness - his mistake was that he didn’t negotiate an exit strategy!

I have to say that I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to work with a team of great entrepreneurs. Many artists have gone to the grave, unknown and anonymous without the opportunity to share their vision or their ideas with the world, under the misconception that they are protecting their artistic integrity. As a writer you invest time and emotional energy and sometimes it can be difficult to think of your output solely as a commodity to be marketed. However, working independently means that we will retain full control.

The summer is threatening to arrive, and with it comes Wimbledon, the Ashes tour and the inevitable Glastonbury festival monsoon. With Andy Murray looking strong, the Brits (not just the Scots) will be right behind him, and 2009 may be defined by a great sporting moment. It also means that we are another month closer to next year's World Cup. I truly believe that England can go to South Africa next year and return world champions, and I sense that the country is slowly starting to believe.

No disrespect to Robert Green, but as one time goalkeeper with the Tasty Oatcakes five-a-side team (aka Bagpuss), I would have fancied my chances between the sticks against Andorra.
